A GLIMMERING EXPRESSION OF THE TRULY INEVITABLE DUALITY OF WESTERN AND EASTERN CULTURES THAT HAVE MET WITHIN MY CREATIVE PERCEPTION OF THE WORLD THROUGH WHICH I TRAVEL.

Swatches inspired by both the intricacies of the glimmering interior and intricate heritage of Iran's Golestan Palace which was built during the era of the Ghadjar Empire, contrasted with the influence of the rebellious great heights of the Enfant-Terrible era of 1980's and 1990's European couture. While this inspiration covers a vast landscape of cultural and historical influence, they have all been filtered into what has moved me to create this work— As an American with Iranian family-heritage, I have experienced an inevitable duality of both Western and Eastern cultures that have met in rare ways within my creative perception of the world through which I travel. In the case of this project, I have aimed to best express this duality of influence through fibers of both a natural and synthetic nature, both monotone and contrasting tones of color, tactile craftsmanship of appliqué, beading, intricate stitch-work, machine-embroidery, needle-felting, foiling, bonding, screen-printing.
